How To Get Started In Web Marketing

July 21st, 2010

You”ve probably given a lot of thought to becoming a Web Marketer and making some good money from home. You like many things about the idea – you can work from home in your shorts and t-shirt, you can create a digital product and sell it over and over again, you can decide your own working hours and if you want to go play golf in the middle of the day, you can. You”re also excited by the possibility of getting a better income than you do now.

You can become a successful Web marketer and make a great income, but it’’s not an easy get-rich-quick scheme like some may have you believe. You need to do a lot of learning and put in a lot of hard work to achieve success time after time.

The path to Web marketing success involves going through three stages, which we will look at here, so you know what to expect in your new career.

Stage 1: Information overload can get in your way

You”ve made a good start by deciding to become a Web Marketer. For some people, the decision is an easy one to make, while for others it’’s harder. Either way, you need to make sure you are 100% committed and not just dabbling. Experimenting with it and then qutting as soon as things get hard will not get you the results you want.

You start reading sales pages and buying products to help you learn the market. They all promise great results if you”ll only take the time to read and follow their instructions. You”re excited because you see the potential. So what happens is you keep buying, keep trying the various business models being promoted, hop from one thing to the next and never give any of them more than 25% of your attention.

Many marketers now have you on their lists and you spend many hours reading their emails and checking out their new offers. You think you might miss something if you stop reading. You have so much information coming in and you”re so busy trying to learn it all that you don”t really accomplish anything.

Stage 2: Get focused and take action

The first stage lasts until one day you wake up and ask yourself what you”re doing and how come you”re not doing anything to make some real money yet. Some people jump ship before they reach this point. But you”ve realized it’’s time to opt-out of most of the lists you”re on, pick a business model that resonates with you, become more focused in your learning (and spend less time on it), and begin taking focused action.

You decide to fully commit to your chosen path and you work hard at it. Despite making some mistakes along the way you start be consistently successful. It’’s now fun, especially when your PayPal account has regular money coming in.

Stage 3: Fine tune and make it hands off

Now that your chosen business model is a success, you decide to automate it as far as you can. Your emails are being sent with an autoresponder, your customers are getting their content automatically delivered, and you have a great system in place. It’’s easy to duplicate what you have done because you are using tried and tested templates, action sheets, and you have shortcuts to make things faster.

You are also building a team to work with you. You have a graphic designer, website maker, and article /blog post/ ebook writers at your disposal. You”ve built relationships with other web marketers and have affiliates.

Before you know it you will be training other web marketers to copy your success. Surely you remember what it was like back in stage one?

What Is Search Engine Optimization

July 8th, 2010

The concept of the Internet is so enormous, it can boggle the mind, but it also represents big business. Companies do not create Web sites simply to provide information, they do it to increase sales. One of the best ways to do so is to engage in a Search Engine Optimization process on the company site.

This term, also referred to as SEO, is the act of maximizing traffic to a specific Web site from various search engines. The inquiry terms that a user keys into the appropriate field in the search engine page are correlated with specific Web pages through the use of key words and tags. When the user types in a term, a list of Web sites tied to that term appear in the inquiry results list.

Every company strives to have its Web page appear at the top of the search results page of a relevant inquiry. The belief is that a higher ranking makes the site more visible to consumers. Getting the Web site onto page one of the results list is one hurdle because it is rare that individuals will visit the subsequent pages of the list. Once the site is on page one, the goal is to get it as high in the ranking as possible because people tend to click on the items they see first. More visits to the company Web site should result in more sales for the company.

The strategy behind SEO is based on marketing concepts and it identifies the terms used by individuals. It also looks at how a search engine finds the Web pages relevant to these terms. This information is use to alter the Web site to include the inquiry terms in its content and background coding. It also takes what is learned about the functioning of the engine and removes any barriers to indexing.

Companies have Web experts skilled in SEO that perform these tasks. The job involves doing research to find the most relevant inquiry terms and changing HTML source coding on the Web site. If a company does not have one of these individuals on staff, it will often contract with a professional to do the job. The optimization process can be performed on the menus, images, shopping carts, videos, designs, and content management systems of the site.

The Search Engine Optimization marketing strategy is something that needs to be constantly monitored. Doing so will ensure that the company’’s Web site is at top of the inquiry results lists of the top search engines. The company will experience more traffic on its Web site, which is anticipated to result in higher sales.

The Logo’’s A Good Starting Point With Your Web Design

July 7th, 2010

At JumpStart we continually develop new websites for up and coming businesses throughout Ireland and abroad. Quite simply having a website is not just a nice to have anymore; it’’s an essential aspect of the whole marketing process. One of the first questions I usually get asked is “I want a new website for my business where should I start?” I think many people get overwhelmed with the thought of having to get a website designed for their new or existing business, especially if they are not savvy with the web and the latest technologies out there.

When I do client consultations, they usually ask me on where to begin. In the design process, I initialize it with the logo development. In developing a company logo, I make sure that it has longevity, originality and portrays your company in a serious light. It is a great way to start the overall web design. Doing start-ups are not as complicated as developing existing websites. We have more command, can offer new ideas, and present several options on the first while the latter have already their own terms and personal preferences.

A company that has been around for a while is likely to be reluctant to change its logo because their customers have come to recognize the logo. They would be willing to invest for a new website for a change but not when it comes to their logo face-lift. An instant change is not a good idea but applying a variety here and there would not do any harm. Many well-known companies have made that leap. Did you know that Apple’’s original logo was Isaac Newton under an apple tree? Or that Nokia’’s original logo was a fish? Logo is a must to build brand image because it conveys the qualities and thoughts of the business to the people and this should be carried out to the web presence. There are three main aspects to remember in developing a remarkable logo, the name, the colors and the tagline.

The most memorable business names are also the most simple; not a bunch of scientific, fancy, high-sounding company names. Bottom line is, your name must portray what the company does. If you have a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly website, potential customers are inclined to know more about you and this could be achieved through the use of the right keywords when you purchase your domain name. You will get maximized traffic and your website can be on the top rank in Google where more and more people can click on it. SEO is an essential aspect of web marketing.

Color is also important, Without going into too much detail on what each color means, remember when you choose a logo, these colors will also be used as a palette for your website. It’’s recommended that you use no more than three or four main colors on your website in total, anything above that becomes confusing to the person viewing your website. If you use blue and gold in your logo, expect to see those colors feature heavily in the web design.

The Tagline of your website is what makes a direct impact on your branding than anything else. As a matter of fact, customers relate to the baselines and taglines of products and services more easily than they do to the product itself. Taglines are also very beneficial especially if your company’’s name does not represent what it actually does. Take these famous and unforgettable taglines as examples: Don”t leave home without it. (American Express), Just do it.(Nike) Where’’s the beef? (Wendy’’s), Think different. (Apple Computer), The original cider (Bulmers), Tastes great, less filling. (Miller Lite), Melts in your mouth, not in your hands. (M&M Candies).

A logo is the first visual image that anybody is going to have of a company. It represents everything the brand stands for that can help you with the overall web design process of your website. The main points to be taken into account in creating a logo would be the name, the Color, and the Tagline.
At Jump Start, we specialize in logo development. We have the right ideas to match what your company wants to convey to the audience. We got what it takes to make maximize the business potential of your website. Please feel free to contact us at your convenience for logos or web design assistance.

Victoria Search Engine Optimization

June 30th, 2010

“Search Engine Optimization,” or “Search Engine Optimizing” are both commonly referred to by their acronym, SEO. Search engine optimization is the process of combing through a website to make it more credible, or search engine-friendly in the eyes of Google, Bing, Yahoo or other search engines.

It is common practice for organizations and individuals to spend astronomical amounts of money into having a professional website developed. However, if no body sees the website in the organic search engine rankings, then it isn”t providing a very good return on investment. By hiring a professional firm like Stikky Media to implement search engine optimization Victoria services for you, your website will be “liked” by Google, Bing, Yahoo among others and slowly begin to climb up in the search engine rankings.

The alternative to having a website appear in the search engine rankings is pay per click, or PPC advertising. This form of advertising costs money and can add up very quickly. With search engine optimization, however, it doesn”t cost anything to have your website appear in the search engine rankings, other than what it costs to pay a consultant to optimize your site for you.

If you are planning a website redesign, this is the best time to implement search engine optimization practices. Having this all done at the beginning will get your website off to a strong start in wasting no time in terms of being indexed by search engines for your desired keyword terms. However, it is never too late to implement search engine optimization into your website.

They can help you get your website found, whether you already have one that isn”t getting any traffic or if you need assistance in designing a whole new website concept – they do that too. Quick Techniques To Localize A Web Page

June 28th, 2010

Major companies nearly always use the internet to help sell goods and services. Small, locally based companies, though, frequently miss significant opportunities to use the internet to sell their goods and services. As the World Wide Web is truly ”world-wide” it is easy to see why small business operators may not see how the internet can help them market products and services. Still, it is possible to construct a web page that will compete for new revenue from new, local customers.

Attracting local internet traffic allows a smaller business to compete with major corporations. Local hardware stores can find ways to compete with the hardware supercenters by identifying a unique market niche. Once that niche is identified, a small business website can then be ”Localized” to attract internet traffic.

Using localization to compete for internet exposure and business, the new or small business website is more likely to be returned as a top result on the common search engines such as Google and Yahoo. This traffic is highly valuable as users researching a product purchase in their areas are highly likely to use the internet to find product information prior to purchase. Searching for unique services such as “Epoxy Flooring in Illinois” would then return a list of contractor websites for businesses providing this service in this area.

What are the first steps towards localizing a small company web page for local search? Three easy tasks are required: Inclusion of a Geographic parameter Identification of a specific feature niche Create a local niche keyword phrase

“Geographic Parameters” simply refers to the local city area in which the business wants to sell its services or products. Internet readers seeking information about acquiring these services from a local provider will nearly always use a geographic term in her/his search request. Frequently, the geographic parameter is simply the name of the local metro area. This avoids internet competition for exposure and placement with other businesses elsewhere.

Business owners should also include the exact street address where the organization is located – making sure to list the city, state and postal code. This information confirms for the search engines that the company is relevant to the geographic area.

Finding a unique or specific niche is essential to differentiate the business product/service offering. It also allows the business to avoid competing head-to-head with huge company websites. The general idea is to find a phase that describes the business characteristic that sets the organization apart from others. When testing the niche, just create a search phrase for it and run it on Google. If the first result returned by the Google search engine is that of a major company, try another phrase until one is identified that has a weaker result. Google has several useful and free tools available to help with this process.

When a good phrase has been identified, combine it with the geographic parameter. This results in a localized keyword phrase. The local phrase might result in something similar to “SEO Consultants Denver.” In this instance, users searching for SEO services in the Denver metro area are likely to see this web page returned as a highly placed search result.

In terms of volume, local search won”t result in massive numbers of visitors from outside the area. Still, it isn”t useful to appear as the #1 result for “Lawn Mowers in Atlanta” when the business is in Cleveland. Local search allows small businesses to compete with big companies using the internet and their own, unique product or service offering.

A Business Blog As A Marketing Tool

June 16th, 2010

Because of the spectacular expansion of blogging over the past decades, it was unavoidable that businesses would start to see the potential of blogging as a marketing and sales communications medium and get into the act eventually.

Business blogs are broken down into two classes – the internal blog plus the external one – each has its own purpose.

In years past businesses were forced to publish regular circulars to advise personnel about company announcement and developments but now it can be carried out via an internal corporate blog that communicates with workers in close to real-time and which provides them with a ready method of giving their opinions.

External business blogs are widely-used to get in touch with all those outside the organization that have an interest in its success – by keeping them well informed of company information, development, new service introductions etc.

While the corporate blog is a effective tool, a lot of companies don”t utilize it effectively due to the fact they don”t understand the potential and have started their blogs only in order that they aren”t looked at as being out of date. These businesses make blogs with no long-term goal or focus, either for the staff or outside stakeholder. Because of this, the end result is sometimes the reverse of what they expected it to be.

A blog which has no discernable goal can create the perception among the visitors that those who publish it – the organization’’s administration – also have no certain purpose.

Also because a blog is an interactive medium – readers can submit their comments on what they”ve read so that others can share their opinions and experiences. Not supplying material that stimulates the discussion will leave the business blog limp and lifeless.

However an internal corporate blog done properly, can be a huge morale enhancer by enabling employees to communicate their viewpoint and therefore giving them a sense of being actively involved with the running of their company. Providing workers with current up to date information in the corporate blog enables the management to get important employees comments on numerous issues in an casual manner and modify their guidelines accordingly, if required.

External corporate sites are a chance for the organization to inform anyone outside it about the fresh happenings and products which are making news and once again, given that audience feedback is usually part of these kinds of blogs, useful information in the form of marketplace viewpoint to new policies and products can be had for next to practically nothing. Much like the internal blog giving users the opportunity to associate with the management, which can produce customer loyalty.

Inbound Linking

June 14th, 2010

Without a doubt, one of the most important parts of the Google algorithm is that which considers inbound links from other sites. It should be obvious to you that a link pointing at your site is a positive thing. The other site owner would never put a link to your site if there wasn”t a good reason to do so.

The question that comes up time after time is how to get other sites to link back to yours. Creating great content, or other unique things, is one very good way to make another webmaster want to send his users to your site. This is a critical point … you won”t get links from other sites unless you give them really, really good reasons to point a link at your site.

There are many other ways of getting links as well but I”d venture to say creating quality content that makes others want to link to you is the best way. This method really helps your website gain importance. It also has the benefit of attracting links.

I have seen charts, glossaries, listings generate inbound links. I have a chart on one site that is a character map for several different typefaces, one being the Wingdings font. People use those oddball characters to create things like smilies (: – but more advanced ones. Some use them in signatures. Those particular pages have a lot of inbound links pointing at them simply because they have a value to them.

What we are really looking for here is to create some content on your site that other webmasters will want to share with their own readers.

How about a list? Would a list of all businesses in a particular market have some value for your readers? If so, it would have the same value to readers at other websites as well.

The days of reciprocal links pages are behind us now. No longer is this of any benefit. If you can generate a reciprocated link, and link from somewhere within the content of your site, I will say to do it. I still believe this is a good link … as long as there is a good reason for it. What I mean is that there should be some value to having this link.

Testimonials are something that is really good … no matter how you look at it. Everyone loves to get an email with some kind and generous words about their site, or themselves. Here is an opportunity. Write a nice testimonial about something at another site that is relative and in the market that your site is in. Include a link and good anchor text with the testimonial and email it off to the other webmaster.

Whenever we speak of linking we always want the other site to be relative to our site. By this we mean there needs to be some similarity. Socks to shoes is an example. There is relevance here. Sunglasses to hikers. Perhaps not a very close match of the market but it is still relevant that someone hiking will be outdoors and want sunglasses. Always keep some degree of relevance between all the sites you link out to, and hopefully, those that link back to you.

Inbound links are the gold that will make your site rise in the listings on the major engines. Without them your long term success is at stake. Never let a week slip by without somehow generating some inbound links.

As everything in SEO, it is not an exact science. Utilize all of our information but understand that nothing works all by itself. You need to be complete and thorough in order to have a fully optimized website.
